Munford High School was originally located on the current site of Munford City Hall. The first class graduating from Munford High School was in 1930. The current location at 1080 McLaughlin Drive was opened in 1983 and has undergone numerous expansions and additions due to the increased growth.
The school mascot is the Cougar, adopted in 1983. Previous mascots include the Black Cat and Tiger. Munford High School is noted in West Tennessee for its diverse academic offerings, high quality teachers, and its commitment to athletics and the arts, most notably its Nationally acclaimed band program, regarded by some to be one of the best in Tennessee.
The mission of Munford High School is to create a community of empowered learners who are challenged to meet high expectations and accomplish academic, social and career/technical goals.
We should focus on the whole person, so each student can be successful academically, socially and vocationally.
We should promote productive citizenship that reflects respect, commitment, discipline, integrity, unity, cooperation, responsibility and leadership.
We should make resources, programs, and instruction relevant to the real world.
We should work toward an integrated curriculum that reaches across disciplines and age levels and helps students acquire a strong academic base and marketable skills so they will be competitive after graduation.
We should encourage students to meet academic challenges with openness, enthusiasm, and a willingness to solve problems.
We should create a safe and positive environment through the cooperation of students, faculty, and community.
We should create a climate, which includes the promotion of higher order thinking skills, where students are challenged with educational opportunities, encouraged to assume responsibility for their own learning, and made aware of social issues and ethical conduct.
Munford High School will strive to educate all students to the highest level in order to make them successful and productive individuals in society.
